Another third-period deficit was no problem for the high-scoring Vancouver Canucks. Jannik Hansen scored the go-ahead goal with just under 6 minutes left in the third period to lead the Canucks to a 4-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Sunday. Devils draft pick Patrice Cormier will appeal his suspension for the remainder of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season and playoffs for a violent hit on an opposing player. Cormier is a 19-year-old forward selected in the second round of the 2008 draft by New Jersey. He was disciplined by the QMJHL for elbowing Mikael Tam of the Quebec Remparts.

Sean Avery’s days with the Dallas Stars are done.
Although the combative forward was eligible to return from a six-game suspension Sunday, the Stars instead announced Avery will not rejoin the team – ever.
“All parties said there is a clear understanding that a return to the Stars is not in the best interest of either the hockey club or Avery,” the team said in a news release.
Details of his departure still must be worked out. He could be traded, sent to the minors or bought out next summer.
