The Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks will play an exhibition game against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Winnepeg in the fall. True North Sports & Entertainment Limited said Wednesday the Blackhawks will play the Lightning on Sept. 22 at the MTS Center. The matchup will be the seventh NHL preseason contest hosted by Winnipeg since 1997.

The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to a one-year contract with forward Ilari Filppula. The team announced the deal Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed. The 28-year-old Filppula is a 5-foot-11, 191-pound forward who played the past two seasons for TPS Turku of the Finnish Elite League. In 2009-10, the Vantaa, Finland, native finished ninth in league scoring with 49 points in 58 games.

Georges Laraque and the Montreal Canadiens have officially parted ways. The Canadiens say Tuesday that they bought out the final season of Laraque’s three-year, $4.5 million contract. The team originally announced on Jan. 21 that they would buy out the 33-year-old enforcer. He was banished from the team that day because Laraque had become a distraction.
